Personality/Nature: Stereotype males, Strict and unfriendly

3 Act structure.
Act 1 - Set Up
Key Character : Mr. Brown
Motive: He wants to keep his job and teach foreign students english
Situation: Mrs Courtney ' The principal ' doesn't like him and his class is not a easy class to teach.
Other information: He is an english teacher that doesn't know other languages to communicate with his class.
Turning point 1: He decides to ignores the communication problems with his students and continues his job as a teacher.

Act 2- Confrontation
Obstacles/Conflict: He cannot communicate properly with his students and have problems giving instruction to them.  Also, there is some conflict between his students. The principal tells him that there will always a lot of problem when there is a pretty girl in class. A pretty french girl appears in his class which causes problems between the students.
Turning Point 2: He believes that he can handle the students and do not think it will be a problem and assure Mrs courtney.

Act 3- Resolution
Climax: Giovanni and Max gets into an argument over their seat near to danielle and Ranjeet provokes Ali while Mr. Brown was having problem getting answers from Ali which leads to a fight in the class.

Resolution: Mr Brown endures and tells Mrs Courtney that he can still cope with class but asks her to add more nails on the window in fear that he might not be able to endure it the next time round.

LESSON #1

What makes a good story :

1. Having a interesting character with STRONG motive in the story.

2. A story that follows the 3 Act structure.
3. Key messages to the readers/audiences.
4. Knowing who is the audiences for the story allows them to relate to the story.
5. Conflicts / Obstacles that hinders the antagonist motive.

Definations 


 -Screenplay:

Screenplay or script is a written work by screenwriters for a film or television program. These screenplays can be original works or adaptations from existing pieces of writing

- Storyboard:

Storyboard are graphic organizers in the form of illustrations or images displayed in sequence for the purpose of pre-visualizing a motion pictureanimationmotion graphic or interactive media sequence.

- Plagiarism:

Plagiarism is defined in dictionaries as the "wrongful appropriation," "close imitation," or "purloining and publication" of another author's "language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions," and the representation of them as one's own original work, but the notion remains problematic with nebulous boundaries.

- Pitch:

A concise verbal (and sometimes visual) presentation of an idea for a film or TV series generally made by a screenwriter or director to a producer or studio executive in the hope of attracting development finance to pay for the writing of a screenplay. 

- Genre:
A class or catorgary of artistic endeavor having a particularform, content, technique. 

- Conceptualize:
Form a concept or idea of (something)

- Logline:
A brief summary of a television program of film, often providing both a synopsis of the program's plot, and an emotional "hook" to stimulate interest.

- Synopsis:
A synopsis is a brief summary of the major points of a written work, either as prose or as a table; an abridgement or condensation of a work.

- 3 Act Structure:
A model used in writing and evaluating modern storytelling which divides a screenplay into three parts called the Setup, the Confrontation and the Resolution.

- Set Up, Confrontation, Resolution: 
A structure in the 3 Act Structure.
SET UP - Camera position, as for a particular shot in a scene being filmed. 

CONFRONTATION - Discord or a clash of opinions and ideas: an age of ideological confrontation. 

RESOLUTION - The resolution in a film is the solution to the problem and main tension of the story. It often explains what has happened, what will happen, and shows a new status quo.

- Treatment:
A film treatment (or treatment for short) is a piece of prose, typically the step between scene cards (index cards) and the first draft of a screenplay for a motion picture, television program, or radio play. It is generally longer and more detailed than an outline (or one-page synopsis), and it may include details of directorial style that an outline omits. They read like a short story, except told in the present tense and describing events as they happen. There are two types: the original draft treatment, created during the writing process, and the presentation treatment, created as presentation material.

- Storyline:
The plot of a book or play or film.

- Motive:
A reason for doing something, esp. one that is hidden or not obvious.

- Conflict:
An incompatibility between two or more opinions, principles, or interests.

Loglines :

Starship Troopers ; A group of youngster have a mission to defeat the insect for their survival.

Home Alone ; A little boy have to protect his house and himself from the burglars until his parents come home. 

Transporter 2 ; Jason Statham has to find the kidnapper who took his client's son.

Men In Black ; 2 Agents has to protect Earth from the aliens.  

Identify the key character & his/her/their motives :

Starship Troopers: Johnny, His motive is to fight against the aliens for the future and survival.

Home Alone: Kevin McCallister, His motive is to protect his home from the burglars until his parents come home.


Transporter 2: Jason Statham, His motive is to complete his mission.

Men In Black: K, His motive is to protect Earth from the aliens from other planets. 

3 Act structures :

Starship Troopers:

Act1: Set up
Key character: Johnny
Motive: To win against the alien bugs 
Situation: The aliens bugs are powerful compared to their armed forces. 
Other information: He and his group of team mates will fight together and there is no other way to back down. 
Turning Point: He decides to not give up and face the  enemy even though their strength are greater than the human troops. 

Act2: Confrontation
Obstacles/Conflict: In the middle of the war against the alien bugs, they were overwhelm by the aliens and his team mate died in the battle.
Turning Point 2: He did not back down even after the loss and continued to fight against the aliens. 

Act3: Resolution
Climax: In the middle of the war, they discovered that the aliens had set a trap and it's power have gotten bigger
Resolution: He managed to kill the aliens. 


Home Alone:

Act1: Set up
Key character: Kevin McCallister 

Motive: To protect his home and himself from the burglars. 
Situation: His parents are not around and he is all alone against the 2 thugs. 
Other information: He is underaged and his parents have forgot about him when they went on a holiday.
Turning Point: He did not fear the burglars even though his parents was not around. Instead he set up traps for them 

Act2: Confrontation
Obstacles/Conflict: The 2 burglars managed to get into the house and his parents are still not home. 
Turning Point 2: He decides to go up against the burglars even after they broke into his house. 

Act3: Resolution
Climax: The burglars refuses to give in and he have to come up with more tricks to make the burglars leave. Also, his mother is facing difficulties on the way home
Resolution: He managed to protect his home from the burglars. 

Transporter 2:

Act1: Set up

Key character: Jason Statham 
Motive: is to complete his mission 
Situation: His client child have been kidnapped and he failed. 
Other information: He is top class transporter.
Turning Point: He decides to find the kidnapper and rescue the boy back

Act2: Confrontation
Obstacles/Conflict: He do not know who are the kidnapers and the kidnapping situation is not simple. 
Turning Point 2: He goes up against many enemies in order to get the boy back. 

Act3: Resolution
Climax: He have to face many enemies and fight against all of them. 
Resolution: He managed to defeat the enemies

Men In Black:

Act1: Set up

Key character: K
Motive: To protect Earth from aliens from the other planets. 
Situation: He finds a new partner J/James Edwards and doesn't seems to be of help.
Turning Point: He decides to accepts J is his partner

Act2: Confrontation
Obstacles/Conflict: J causes troubles for him during missions
Turning Point 2: He accepts his partner flaws and aid J into a better agent. 

Act3: Resolution
Climax: One of the alien wants to destroys Earth 
Resolution: K managed to protect Earth together with J.
